Chinese Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture
New Patient Intake: in a first consultation we perform a thorough intake and prescribe an herbal formula to begin working on the condition. First visits are diagnostic focused and do not typically allow time for acupuncture or physical treatment.
Follow Up Treatment: follow up visits quantify changes, modify formulas, and perform acupuncture & bodywork as time permits. Booking sequential visits ahead of time is highly recommended to ensure practitioner availability and ensure continuity of care.
Please note: Our chief practitioners will have an assistant present during intake and treatment. If you require a more private treatment experience, please book with one of our resident practitioners.
Sliding Scale Appointments: for patients on disability or with medical conditions that have interrupted the ability to work, our ‘Community Clinic’ appointments offer our exceptional care at sliding scale price. We do ask for your respect on this policy, as it is not designed to offer the underemployed a conveniently affordable treatment. Our sliding scale options are designed for us to help people in our community get back on their feet.
Wellness / Massage Treatments
Performed by licensed Chinese medicine practitioners, our wellness services are designed to offer a more lasting effect on the body and mind compared to any standard massage.
Herbal Pharmacy
Our pharmacy is the largest herbal pharmacy in the Southeast! We stock lab tested and organic herbs, and sell herbs to the public. Stop in to see our incredible selection rarely found outside of Chinatown!

Why what we do is important:
The Alternative Clinic is a 501c3 not for profit organization, founded in 1992 as the Association for Traditional Studies (www.traditionalstudies.org). Our mission is to practice and teach the traditional medicine we learned in China to influence public perception in the west and raise the level of skill in our field.
We believe in achieving reliable and repeatable results, and teaching others how to do the same. If we can prove the efficacy of Chinese medicine across a broad range of patient demographics and illness severities, we believe alternative medicine will be accepted as a coequal branch of medicine, and included in mainstream insurance plans. The medical system in the USA is dismal in both cost and efficacy. We are proving that does not have to be the norm!
Our practitioners are world renowned experts with a commitment to effective and affordable care. Our services would be out of reach for many in our community if we passed on business costs to patients. We thus rely on raising over $100,000 each year to run a first rate clinic with excellent staff dedicated to each client one at a time.
Clinic membership shows grassroots support for our work and allows us to offer sliding scale and pro-bono care to those in need. Members receive discounts on every treatment all calendar year, as a thank you for your support as well as encouragement to make wellness central to your self-care regime.
